So, like most of you, we got out in the snow in the past few days and got a few pictures. Clara lasted out there for about 5 minutes . . not that I expected longer. I was really just making her go out there for the photo opportunity. In all six of the pictures I got, her facial expression is the same: "So, is this supposed to be fun? 'Cause I'm not feelin' it." :) Understandable, kiddo, understandable.

Monday night, we decorated our tree with our assortment of ornaments that we own. Jeremy and I have had our differences on how to decorate a Christmas tree . . . he wants colored lights, tinsel, and just a bunch of random ornaments, while I would love white lights and some sort of theme . . . I want it to look like something out of a Martha Stewart magazine. Well, Jeremy has won out every year of our marriage, and, now, "his tree" is growing on me. We buy a new ornament each year to symbolize what has happened in that year. We have a little bride and groom, a "new house," a puppy, a pregnant mama, and now a Baby's first Christmas ornament. We also have a ton of just random ornaments that all carry memories somehow. So, it was really fun for me to sit on the floor with Clara and get out each ornament, one at a time, hand it to her in the tissue paper and let her unwrap it. I showed each one to her (which she was interested in for about 2.5 seconds, and then proceeded to rip up the tissue paper . . a preview of what is in store for us on Christmas morning, I'm sure) and then handed them to Jeremy or Darius, who placed them on the tree.

OK, here's my "plea for help" as stated in the title . . . what are some fun Christmas activities that you do with the kids, and, more importantly, those of you with a kid or two as well as an almost year old baby, how do you do something with the older kid while the baby is awake? I am really struggling with this right now, and, especially now that Darius will be here non-stop for Christmas break and one of the neighbor kids is gone on vacation, so his playmate choices are very limited right now. I feel like the only time I can do something fun with Darius is when Clara is napping, and, most days, I'm making him do something by himself so that I can wash the dishes, do laundry, or maybe even just sit and take a break. When Clara is awake, she is all over the place, so trying to do something with him is very difficult. I'm sure most people would say, "Well, just put her in the playpen for a while" . . . well, easier said then done with her. I'm sure we've created her to be the attention-seeking kid that she is, but if I put her somewhere away from us, she will fuss, and then the super fun activity I'm trying to do with Darius is dampered by the loud fussing in the other room by Clara. Anyway, I'm feeling a little bit worn out already and tomorrow starts at least a week, if not two, of having Darius here full days, which we're not used to. Any ideas? Help!

Wish I had more ideas for you but I know the older kids love playing games? We just have to play where Peyton can't reach (like on the couch or kitchen table). I think it's good for the little ones to learn it's not always about them:) Good luck!
That pic of Clara in the snow makes her look sooo grown up! Well, so does the one of her walking.
