No, I don't have the cute "button" thing for the "Favorite things Friday" like others do . . and, yes, it's not even Friday . . but, I'm feeling really grumpy right now with so much snow (I actually love it, and have no problem driving in it, as I grew up with way more than this . . . . but around here, you really get stuck, so I'm feeling stir crazy and nervous that my family isn't going to make it here for Christmas which would really bum me out), Clara just getting over her eye infection, only to get a really runny nose today and cutting tooth after tooth so she's been really grumpy all day, and feeling like I don't have enough things for Darius to fill his time with, so he's bored and grumpy, too. Ok, now that I said that, I want to be positive and say a few of my favorite things right now . . .
1. Christmas caroling: I have always loved this, mostly because the church my family attended when I was a kid had an annual caroling event and I had a blast with it. A few of us went the other night to a nursing home and a retirement center, walking down the street in the snow together, all bundled up, and it got me in the Christmas spirit. The best part was that Clara brought so much joy to so many of the elderly people there . . . even more than the singing. There's something about a cute baby when you haven't seen one in a while (or so I would imagine that they haven't) that makes your day. Anyway, I love caroling.
2. Clara signing "dog": She just recently learned this sign and she also accompanies it with a "dah" sound. She has modified the sign a bit (it's supposed to be that you tap your leg twice, but she taps her stomach) but it is so cute. Every animal right now is a "dah" whether it's on TV, a stuffed animal, or a picture in a book. Which leads me to say . . .
3. Clara's newest obsession with reading books: It's fun most of the time, anyway. She is insistent right now about us reading books to her. She finds one, brings it over to us, and forces herself on our lap. Some of her favorites right now are "Brown Bear, Brown Bear" and "Goodnight Moon" among others. We just read the baby board books, as she isn't very nice with paper pages yet, and she really only handles about 1-2 sentences per page. She will sit and do this for at least 1/2 hour at a time . .. not a bad attention span for an 11 month old, hey?
4. Finally, as frustrated as I am with being stuck inside and not able to go anywhere right now, I do love having Christmas decorations up, the gas fireplace going, a nice hot mug of cider or cocoa, and falling snow to put me in the Christmas mood. As long as my family can make it over two passes later this week . . :)
