Operation Christmas Child . .. part 1?

I showed Darius the informational video for Operation Christmas Child today on the computer and had a discussion with him about it. For those of you who don't know, it is a program through Samaritan's Purse that allows people to put together a shoebox of gifts for a child in 3rd world countries, which are delivered to the children on Christmas day. I have always been a huge supporter of this project. When I taught at Drum for a few years, I had my students in my self-contained Special Ed. classroom do this as a project . . we even raised our own money the first year by having a coin drive schoolwide, counted all $200 worth of coins ourselves, went to the dollar store to get stuff for the boxes, and wrote letters to the kids. Since I taught at the high school last year and the year before, I haven't done a box, though, so I am excited to do one this year.

Anyway, back to Darius. So, I showed him the video today and he ATE IT UP! He was so excited and so compassionate for the kids on the video. At one point, he even said that he could give the kids some of his crayons and toys, which I thought was truly generous, as this is a kiddo who came to our house with only a backpack full of stuff, and he is still willing to give it away. Later in the conversation, he also said that "We should pray" for the kids. I had to choke back tears, as I replied to him, "You're right Darius . . . that's the most important thing, huh?"

Maybe I'll add more to the story after Saturday, when we're planning on going shopping to get stuff for our little boy, and the teenage girl that I'm going to fill a box for.

P.S. On another note, Clara is 10 months old today . . . but I need to get some pictures of her maybe tomorrow and then I'll do a post on her.
