Arrrgh, mateys!

After we got our swingset, Clara decided that it looked like a pirate ship. This inspired me to throw a party. I love having an excuse to throw a party. I love having an event for Clara and I to look forward to, plan for, make invitations for, look up ideas on the Internet for, buy stuff at the Dollar Store for, and prepare crafts all week in preparation for. Not to mention the fun that happens during the party!

So, we sent out some cute invitations ("to girls, only, mom . . . this is going to be a girls party, ok?") and four other little 3-5 year olds were able to come this last Friday morning. It had been a yucky week of weather leading up to the little get-together, but that morning was perfect! Nice and sunny, but not too hot. They played on the swing set, made "spotting scopes" out of paper towel tubes, had eye patches made out of construction paper (which none of them wore for very long, but that's ok...), played a treasure hunt game in the sandbox, and another "pirate action" game that I made up. Each kid also brought their own sack lunch, so they ate a picnic, and then they got to come into the playroom and search for their "hidden treasure cupcake." All in all, it was a huge success and maybe something we'll have to do at the start of each summer, but with a different theme next time! Rachel and Alirie on the swing
Clara and Lily making "spotting scopes" . . . not sure why I call them that . . .
i think it's from Diego
