We're 11 months!

I have been so bad about taking pictures lately . . I've got nothin' to show for the last month! Now that spring is coming, though, and I got my "nice" camera out today, hopefully I'll be better about getting some more shots of the girls, especially as their first birthday is approaching!

For now, here's a pic from a year ago, right about this time, and a little reminiscing...

A year ago, I was 34 weeks pregnant with twins, and thinking that, any DAY now, I could have them. I had to go in to my doc twice a week for the last six weeks for fetal monitoring, and, sometimes, if we weren't able to get the reading we wanted, I would be sent to the hospital for an ultrasound. When I went in for the first of these appointments, the nurse scheduled me out for all the rest of them . . two per week for 6 weeks, so going all the way up to April 16th, which would be the 38th week, at which point my doc had promised me early on that she would induce. At the time, I thought, "Oh, there's no way I'm gonna be here at that point . . . twins are born early most of the time." Well, NOT my Emma and Savannah. I went to every single one of those blasted appointments, and cried through a lot of them. I got so, so big and so, so uncomfortable. But God knew what He was doing, and those two babies came out healthy, fully-formed, and beautiful, after we induced them out of there at 38 weeks.

Anyway, I'll probably write out more memories next month when they turn a year (I can't believe we're there already!) but, for now, here's the 11-month update:
Savannah: I'm not sure what qualifies calling a kid an official "walker" . . . but she's pretty darn close. She has been taking 6-8 steps at a time all day long today, and definitely cruises easily around things, holding on with one hand. That said, her main mode of transportation is still crawling. She is able to sign "more" and "all done" now, but is pretty stubborn and chooses not to a lot of the time. Can say mama and dadda, and we think that she's starting to understand what those mean.
Emma: Right behind Sav with the walking . . . can cruise around stuff like a champ, and, just tonight, took about 3 steps across the room to Jeremy! She is able to sign both words, too, and seems to enjoy it more than Sav and is pleased with herself when she does. Same with the mama and dadda.
Both babies are sleeping pretty well right now, especially for their two naptimes. At night, they're waking up occasionally, and just need a little binky fix . . . most of the time. We have 3-4 day stretches when either of them will decide to just throw a fit in the middle of the night, for up to 40 minutes. And when I say fit, i mean fit. It's amazing that the other baby can sleep right through it a lot of the time. We have had to just close doors and let them scream it out, because they just want to be rocked forever. Some nights, though, I take the opportunity for some individual snuggling. :)
Here is a little example of the difference in their personalities: This afternoon, I got out some stuff to make a little "sensory box" for them to play in, as it was raining outside and both babies have had yucky noses and are grouchy. We needed something new. I put rice, beans, and two types of pasta into a big box and threw in a few measuring cups. Sav dove right in, and wanted to just swish those little hands through the mix, grab handfuls of it, and use the measuring cups. She also was the one who kept spitting her binky out of her mouth, trying to sneak a bean or noodle into it, and I eventually had to put her in the playpen for a timeout, during which she threw a tantrum. Emma, on the other hand, sat quietly and would get 2-3 pieces in each hand, and just study them. She just watched Clara and Sav dive in, and was very inquisitive about the whole thing. She never once tried to eat any of it, which surprised me. She really didn't dive in and grab any of it, either.
As I type, both babies are yucky noses (again), and Emma is up there, crying. I have already rocked her twice and put her back down, only to have her start up again. So, we're down here, waiting for her to fuss herself to sleep. Pray for us that this cold bug finally goes away when the two babies are done with it. Someone has been sick in this house for over a month now, and it's getting really old.
