I know that 17 months isn't a super special age or anything, but I feel like I don't write stuff down that Clara is doing enough, so, just so that I can remember someday . . .
1. Yesterday, she was playing with the "Resurrection Eggs" that we hadn't gotten out since Easter, but she saw them up on a shelf and wanted them. She sat quietly and opened each one, took the stuff out, and stuck the stickers all over herself. After about 25 minutes of that, she suddenly got up and started walking to the front door. I saw that, in her hand, she had the little piece of pea gravel that is in one of the eggs, and she was saying, "Rock. Outside. Rock. Outside." She knew where that rock was supposed to go!
2. Her favorites right now: toddler gym (specifically sliding down the little plastic slide into the wading pool of balls), bubbles (blowing them herself, though . . . it's not fun to have them blown for her), sidewalk chalk, her sandbox, getting a ride on our neighbor girl's motorized barbie car, playing at any park, visiting the pet store and seeing the dogs/cats/birds/fishies, reading books over and over again, watching Baby Einstein and now Elmo, doing puzzles, building with blocks, and doing "turn-arounds" so that she gets dizzy and then trying to walk. :)
3. She is saying so many new words that it's hard to sit here and think of what they are. I'm not even sure where she is getting all of them! She can point to and say the names of most farm animals, as well as the sound they make. She also loves to point to the sky when an airplane goes by and say, "Aii--pane!"
4. Most of the time, she is so tough, and very adventurous. She got hit in the face at the YMCA nursery the other day, and the attendants said she stopped crying pretty quickly about it. She climbs onto things, crawls into boxes, tries to ride on the dog, and jumps off of stuff and just jumps back up to her feet again when she falls. It's so amazing to watch her little developmental skills progress, especially in toddler gym. A few months ago, I had to put her onto every little toy they had, and she needed help getting up and down the smallest steps, but now she maneuvers the whole gymnastics gym like a pro! The only thing she is still working on is jumping. She'll get on the trampoline and bend her little legs, bend over at the waist, and get those little arms pumping, trying so hard to get her feet off the ground, but they just won't do it. It's pretty funny to watch!
5. Each time we get a new kiddo here to stay for a while, she eagerly runs up to them within minutes of them being here and wants to play with them, sit on their lap, or have them read to her. I absolutely LOVE what having all these kids in the house does for her. She is learning to be accepting and loving to everyone.
