What, a month old already?

When Clara was a baby, I wrote a little something about what she was doing on the blog every month, diligently, and I am really glad I did, because I ended up printing off all of my little journal entries and using them in her baby scrapbook. I just looked through it again the other day, and it was nice to be able to see what she was doing at each month, so we can compare a little with what the twins are doing. So, with that said, my baby girls are already a month old, so I am taking this time to jot down what they're doing, instead of taking a nap right now. :)

This first month has been tiring, but, in all honesty, I feel like these two girls have been easier than Clara was by herself. Much of that might be due to the fact that we started formula-feeding them right from the start, and got them on 3-hour schedules right away. We started the first two weeks at home with having them sleep swaddled up, close together in a basinett or in the crib mattress, but found that Emma especially doesn't really like being swaddled (like her big sister, Clara didn't). We have resorted to having them sleep in their carseats a lot, which is very convenient in the middle of the night because they can be picked up and moved, and they don't have to go flat on their backs right after eating, while mom or dad feeds the second baby. These two definitely have to live the "twin life" in that they are fed together, even when that means being woken up out of a deep sleep. Most of the time, they wake up quickly and are ready to eat, too . . but we are finding that Emma seems to want to eat more and less frequently than Savannah. A month into this, we are starting to get tired and are ready for 4-5 hour stretches at night, and I think they could give us that individually, but not IN SYNC with each other.

Anyway, I'm rambling because I'm tired . . . let me just write out a few little things i want to remember:

Emma: I started out smaller than Savannah, but now I am a few ounces heavier! The first week at home, I really had my days and nights mixed up, but now I am better about eating and going back to sleep for mom or dad. I can be very alert when I'm awake and I like to look around at toys. I like being close to Savannah, more than she likes being close to me.

Savannah: I got all the nutrients and blood from Emma, so the first week, I was very red and sluggish and basically slept non-stop. Now, though, I am more alert and like to be awake, too, but I'm still the more laid-back one of the two of us. I don't like to eat quite as much as Emma, so I'm a little smaller than her now. When I lay on the activity mat or on a blanket next to Emma, I don't really like it too much when she hits me or kicks me and I make a fuss about it.

These two are very content most of the time to be rotated from place to place and put themselves to sleep or look around while they are awake. They spend time on the boppy pillow on a crib mattress in the TV room, in their carseats, on the activity mat, or sometimes in a swing. They do love to snuggle, too, and seem like they enjoy it more because it is not as often that they get to be held as it was with Clara. Overall, they are very good little babies and so cute and sweet. We just love them so much!
