The hilarity of a 19-month old!

Clara has just been saying and doing the funniest things lately, so I feel like I've gotta record them somewhere so I don't forget. She is so much fun! She's getting into playing at the YMCA a few times a week, she likes the girls we have here right now, and we're in the middle of transitioning to one nap (which actually is kind of a struggle, but we'll get there!). Here are a few little quotes of her's:
1. She likes to say, "Where are you?" or "Come out!" to various things. She woke up this morning and Jeremy was playing basketball, so the first thing when we came downstairs was her running around, asking, "Daddy, where are you?" in a loud voice. Then, when she was eating a cinnamon raisen english muffin, she picked out the raisens, one at a time, and asked each one of them, in a high pitched little voice, "Raisen, come out!"

2. She knows the names of the two girls we have here, but really only calls Vicky by her name, for some reason. Most of the time, she just refers to them as the "girls," like this morning when she followed me up the stairs to get them up for the day. I was calling up the stairs for them to get up, so she copied me: "Girls! Girls! Get up, girls!"

3. She has mostly borrowed clothes at the moment, thanks to Sarabeth and Crystal, or, more specifically for Clara, thanks to Jayna and Peyton. Every morning when we are getting her dressed, she asks "Jayna's shirt?" or "Peyton's shoes?" so we know who's stuff she is wearing.

4. She's really learning how to take turns right now, and likes to call out who's turn it is. For example, throwing the ball for Mattie in the backyard is a daily activity, usually after the girls get home from school. Clara will point to herself and say, "Clara's" and take her turn, then point out to everyone else when it's their turn. She is also practicing that at playgrounds around town or at toddler gym at the Y. If someone is doing something she wants to do, she'll look at me and say, "Clara's?" and I'll say, "No, you need to wait. It's their turn right now." She'll say, "Wait." and just stand there until they are done, then point back to herself and very confidently say, "Clara's" and take her turn.

5. Speaking of the YMCA, she needs to be on a commercial for them or something! We sing the "YMCA song" on the way there most days, and she sings that part of it, while I've made up some words to the other part: "We will play on the swing, we will go down the slide, we will jump on the trampoliiiiine!" which she is learning, too. Also, whenever she is playing with cars, if you ask her where the people are going, her reply is ALWAYS: "C.A.!"

6. Brushing her teeth is really not her favorite thing, unfortunately, so I bought a Dora toothbrush that is battery operated and has a rotating brush on it. That was fun for a few weeks, and then it got old, too. So, the latest is that, if she can handle brushing her teeth for 4-5 minutes (she does it herself better than we do it, at this point . . . she actually does a pretty good job of hitting all the major spots) then she gets a stamp on both hands, which she proudly goes around the room and displays. She got into stamps, by the way, from toddler gym at the Y.

7. She will tell people what her name is now, when we cue her.

8. She loves playing with play-doh, and has a particular "boy" cookie cutter and a "horse" cookie cutter that she obsessively has to make each time. But, she also has recently gotten into learning her colors, so we have to spend a little time on each of the four colors we have before we can put it away. She has orange, blue, and yellow pretty much down, and is getting better with purple, green, black, white, and pink. Red is just not happening right now for some reason.

9. The last one is the best: On the way to taking Vicky to school this morning, "We will rock you" was on the radio, so Vicky was singing it to her. Clara caught on, and sang it ALL DAY! She especially sang it while shopping at Costco in the shopping cart. People were giving me some cute and funny looks. Not really a very traditional song for a toddler to know, but it was so stinkin cute!

Here are a few recent pictures. As always, I have a lot more, but they are with the girls, so I can't post them. This is just the other day on the first day of school for the girls

So cute, you'll be so glad you've written all this down. I already don't remember a thing about what Eben did at all his stages. I do know that Clara is light years ahead of all our kids, maybe she'll be a rocket scientist!
