So, Imiss doing my little monthly updates on Clara that I did until she turned one . . it turned out to be the best way to me to remember things that she is doing. So, since she had her 15 month doctor check-up today, it got me inspired to journal a little about what she's doing now!
She is 20 lbs., 3 oz and about 31 inches long. That puts her at 50th percentile for height and 10th for weight, which is how she's been all along, so she continues to progress at the same rate apparantly. She loves her milk and her bottles still, so I think that fills her up maybe a little too much . . but she does eat plenty, too. She is a "meat and cheese" kind of girl, and pretty much has to be forced to eat fruit (little weirdo!), but she'll eat grapes or strawberries without much pressure. She sleeps all night, and wakes up with the sun (which is now at about 6:30 a.m. . . darn it!) and is ready to run around and play all day long! At this point, she does best with two naps, but she can make it through the day with only one. She is talking up a storm, and it seems like she learns new words every day. The newest adorable thing she did tonight was fold her hands when we said "let's pray" . . that's our girl! I don't know if I can think of all the words she says (or signs), but here are some: ball, doggy, kitty, duck, milk, please, thank you, water, eat, cracker, cookie, night-night, blanket, binky, swing, slide, mama, daddy, outside, more .. and others I'm forgetting. She also repeats a lot of stuff we say to her right now. Some of her favorite things right now:
1. Being outside: If it's not raining, she wants to be out there. (See pictures below) She loves to wander around the could-e-sac, pushing her pretend shopping cart or carrying her bubble bucket. She also loves being in the backyard, throwing a tennis ball for Mattie and giggling as she brings it back to her.
2. Toddler Gym at the YMCA: This is the highlight of her week. Monday and Wednesday mornings from 9:10-9:40 she plays on the giant swing, trampoline, and lots of other toddler gross motor toys. (In fact, every time we leave the house in the car now, she signs and asks, "swing?" because she thinks that every time we go somewhere, we must be going to swing). The best part, though, is when the teacher yells out "circle time!" about 15 minutes into it, which prompts Clara to drop everything, squeal, and RUN to the floor to plop herself down and sing a few songs. I absolutely LOVE this about her . . . she is a super active, never-stops-moving kiddo, but yet she does have a great attention span for sitting and singing, reading books, or even watching Baby Einstein. Anyway, we sing all the Toddler Gym songs at home all the time, and she requests them by name constantly. When we sing them at the gym, though, she mostly just watches the other kids, as if she's in awe that everyone else is singing her songs.
3. Baby Einstein DVDs: This one is a little bittersweet for me . . this is the only time that she will just sit for 1/2 hour and not move or whine, so I typically put one on for her while I'm either making or cleaning up from dinner . . . and not every night . . maybe 3-4 times/week. (I don't know why I'm justifying it so much . . . 1/2 hour of TV isn't going to kill her!) We have two of them and they are both about animals, which are her favorite things, too. She just sits there and stares. Nice.
4. Alright, last one: Animals. Loves Mattie . . probably more than she loves Jeremy and I. Loves kitties. Loves horsies. Loves fishies, which we really discovered over in Hawaii. Loves the Pet store, which I try to take her to whenever I have to make a Walmart run, as her little treat for putting up with being at Walmart. She could LIVE at the pet store. Loved the puyallup Spring fair the other day, especially the "dock dogs" show. Hm . . maybe she'll work with animals someday?
